Alex Hormozi needs a better video editing team. | Video Editing Breakdown
Alex Hormozi is a fun and informative guy.

Almost every day I get requests from people to do the "Alex Hormozi" style of video editing. I don't know what that is! So let's watch an Alex Hormozi video to find out exactly why everyone is so obsessed with his "retention" style of video editing and along the way I'm going to be analyzing it, telling you why it works, pointing out mistakes, improvements and enhancements so you can learn from it and be a better video editor.

This is a reaction video! Watch it.

Cool Intro, But Some Mistakes

The video starts off with some cool attention-grabbing editing. There's a lot going on with titles, text effects and sound effects. However, sometimes the sound effects don't quite match up with the text appearing or disappearing. This is something to look out for.

Consistency is Key

Throughout the video, you'll notice that the sound effects, text animations, and overall style are inconsistent at times. As a viewer, this can be distracting. It's important to maintain a consistent flow to keep your audience engaged.

Little Tips and Tricks

There are still some really cool editing techniques on display. For instance, I love how the text sometimes seems to animate with the speaker's hand gestures. There are also some nice emotional graphics and overlays used throughout.

Room for Improvement

While the overall editing is fun and engaging, there's potential to make things better. Pay attention to details like these:

  • Audio pops: These can occur if the audio isn't faded out properly between cuts.
  • J-cuts: Using J-cuts for smoother transitions between clips can make a big difference.
  • Zooms: When zooming in on someone's face, make sure the zoom centers on their eye line.
  • Sound effect volume: Keep those sound effects lower than the speaker's voice.

Towards the end of the video, the visual editing slows down a lot, which feels a little empty compared to the fast-paced, high-energy style used in the rest.

Some Other Thoughts

I found it a bit odd that the video title claims Alex built a “100 million dollar frozen yogurt empire” when he talks about all the research he did but didn't actually do it himself.

Overall Opinion

Alex Hermosy's video editing has a lot of potential. It's fun, unique, and has great ideas. With a bit more attention to detail and consistency, his videos could go from good to truly exceptional.
